Artist’s Statement
My educational background is in biology and I continue to be
excited about depicting the natural world. I hope my paintings
will bring attention to our local wildlife and will increase
appreciation of our remaining open spaces.
Biography
Floy Zittin began her career as a scientific illustrator during the course
of completing taxonomic research for her master’s degree in marine
biology. Her husband’s career took her to British Columbia where
she worked for ten years illustrating college textbooks and providing
field guide drawings for the National Museum of Natural Sciences of
Canada. After returning to California in 1983, Floy became active
in the northern California art community. She finds
inspiration for her work in the natural beauty of the region from
golden hills to the rocky coast. The subjects of her paintings
range from native Californian plant and animal life to landscapes of
coastal trails. A theme present in many of Floy’s paintings is
the co-relationship of people, wildlife and the local environment.
