Artist’s Statement
Nature and flowers are my passion as I am an avid gardener and flower
arranger both of which complement my work with watercolor.
I've arranged flowers at Filoli for the last 24 years.
To fit the grandeur of the Filoli estate, many of these are monumental
arrangements more like floral sculpture.
Flowers are perfect for the medium of watercolor with its transparency
and brilliant luminosity. The color and shape and design of
flowers are lyrical and fascinating for me and provide endless subject
matter.
My Italian heritage has also given me a strong grounding in nature and
the earth. I travel regularly to Italy to visit family as well as
to sketch and photograph the countryside as inspiration for my
landscape and still life paintings.
