Julia Munger Seelos
I grew up in Kentucky, drawing and painting the rural farmlands around Cincinnati. I attended Rhode Island School of Design, University of Cincinnati majoring in Industrial Design and finally received a degree in Illustration from San Jose State University. I worked in retail for years doing everything from window design to surf shops, logo tee shirts, designer graphics and renderings. My work took me to Europe and Asia where I got to visit great art museums and experience many cultures.
I now devote myself full time to painting the beautiful landscapes around the San Francisco Bay and the west. After so many years working inside, I now rely on direct observation, painting outdoors, en plein air. My method is alla prima inspired by the California Impressionists. In my work I hope to capture the beauty of the natural world and share the experience through color and paint.
I participate in many plein air events each year. The list includes the Carmel Art Festival, Laguna Beach plein air, Los Gatos and Sonoma in California. Sedona, Canyon de Chelly, Fort Collins, the Grand Canyon Celebration of Art and the Zion Plein Air in Utah, Colorado and Arizona.
